What is Goldenrod Game Corner?

My fondest memories of childhood are that of Trading Card Games. In particular, Pokemon, way back in 1999 with the release of the Gameboy ‘Red & Blue’ and the TCG ‘Base set’. When local game stores were not a thing and you found rows and rows of Pokemon at your local Woolworths. Panini sticker albums, Plushies, VHS tapes of the anime, marbles, you name it.

Using up all your luck to pull a pack fresh Base Set Unlimited Blastoise Holo then trading it away for someone's pocket, scratched PSA-1 equivalent Hitmonchan Holo and being happy with the trade. Trading cards being banned at school for gambling but sneaking them in to battle it out with made up rules in an asphalt paved school playground with no sleeves.

These are the core memories that have stuck with me. Kids being kids and not having a care about what's worth what and living in the moment. Then growing up happened and TCGs slowly faded out of my life.

Come 2017 at the age of 23, I came across UnlistedLeaf on Youtube opening up Pokémon packs and that just so happened to reignite the passion I held dearly in my childhood. In that very moment, I had to seek out a local game store to fuel said passion. That one excursion then turned into a job and the rest is history.

8 years later and I have now worked with (or worked alongside) many local game stores. I have seen and felt and the ups and downs of the industry but most importantly, I have made connections and friendships with people and players of similar interests. I am also a freelance tournament operator and a Pokémon Professor in my spare time working events both locally and internationally so there’s a good chance we’ve crossed paths!

Goldenrod Game Corner is many things. But I consider it my dream, my passion, the joys of my childhood and now I get to share it with you.

Why Goldenrod Game Corner?

Gold, Silver & Crystal have always been my favourite version of video games. The music, Kanto post game and the introduction of COLOUR! Let's not forget about Ash’s Totodile too. 

The ‘Goldenrod Game Corner’ in Johto was a place where you could throw away all your hard earned Poké Dollars for a chance to win big on the slots. AKA that website where you can throw your money at to try and pull your favourite cards from those booster packs. 

That's the inspiration behind the name!
